En épocas de altas temperaturas se aumentan los riesgos de contraer enfermedades infecciosas, ocasionadas por organismos vivos pequeños, tales como virus, bacterias, hongos y protozoos.
El cuidado con la alimentación, la bebida (agua limpia y fresca), limpieza, debe complementarse con un buen ejercicio físico del animal.
Pueden ser criados en boxes o a campo y, en algunas oportunidades, complementarse ambos.Los caballos “estabulados” (en boxes) presentan más trastornos que los criados “a campo”, siendo lo ideal su complementación.
El encierro durante muchas horas generan ciertos trastornos, también llamado vicios, que son manifestados por el caballo. El aburrimiento y la falta de actividad son las causas más comunes.

Debemos comenzar por una buena alimentación (calidad y cantidad), es conveniente darle de a poco varias veces en el día y tratando de que sea en un mismo horario (desayuno, almuerzo, merienda y cena).
Dejar siempre agua limpia y a su alcance para que beba a voluntad.
Planificar un ejercicio diario, es importante. Prever un potrero (picadero) para que el animal pueda retozar es también muy importante.
El box debe ser cómodo e iluminado por luz natural durante el día.
Debe tenerse en cuenta el medio ambiente que lo rodea.
Eliminar el estrés con ejercicios. El miedo y el mal trato.
Es bueno acostumbrarlo a que deje limpiar el box con él adentro y con la puerta semi-abierta.
